Homeowners
& Renters

Homeowners insurance helps protect the policy holder against financial loss in the event of damage to a house, its contents, or to visitors. It is required by nearly all mortgage providers and is strongly recommended even for people who own their homes outright (no mortgage).

Homeowners insurance does not protect against flooding. Call Shane, Karen, or Tommy if you're concerned about flood protection.

Renters insurance is similar except that it does not protect the structure, only the contents.

Even though your insurance payments may come out of your mortgage payments (escrow) you are in charge of your policy, not your bank. You may change your policy at any time as long as you meet the minimum coverage requirements set by your lendor

Most people are adequately covered by a standard Homeowner's policy but you may need to adjust your coverage if you own expensive antiques, jewelry, or artwork, or if you conduct business out of your home. If these situations apply to you, talk to us and make sure you're adequately covered.

It is recommended that you take a home inventory listing your possessions in a much detail as possible. Keeping this, along with any receipts, pictures, or video, at another location will facilitate your claim in the event of a disaster.

What affects the cost of my coverage? A number of things affect the cost of your coverage. The most significant are the size, location, and type of construction of your home. Other things may not be so obvious, but you have more control over them. If you have an older home and have replaced the electrical, plumbing, or roof you it may reduce your premium. Fire alarms, extinguishers, and security systems may also get you discounts. Pools, pets, and other factors may actually raise your rates. Lastly, your loss history (number, type, and amount of claims) and your credit rating also impact your final premium. If your concerned you're paying too much, or want to know how much buying that German Sheppard is really going to cost, call us at 270-852-4846.
